For the fall television lineup in the fall of 1975, a brand new show made it’s debut, Welcome Back Kotter, among it’s cast, a young John Travolta who portrayed Vinnie Barbarino. Now just where did that last name come from? Turns out the John had a close friend who was an executive in the record business named Bob Reno, who was a high profile A & R guy during the 1960s and 70s ( at Cameo, Vanguard, Buddah, and Mercury labels). In honor of his friend, Travolta came up with the name  ‘Barbarino.’ Later, Bob Reno returned the favor, by signing John to his Midland International label, garnering a Top Ten hit in 1976 with “Let Her In.”
