Reflections of Doris Coley – The Shirelles

When you think about male song stylists, who have made a lasting imprint on the great American songbook, a few names come to mind… Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, Elvis Presley, Nat King Cole, Sam Cooke, and a handful more, those who could virtually take any song and make it their own. One of the forerunners is definitely – TONY BENNETT. It’s amazing that as he celebrates his 95th birthday this week, we can look at his illustrious career, starting in 1951 his long association with Columbia Records and first hit “Because Of You,” and still recording in more recent years, with the album “Love Is Here To Stay” released in 2018. Even thru publicly announcing his battle with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016, he still has remained active in performance, recording, and his affinity for painting. A talent like Tony’s only comes once in a lifetime, and to that I tip my hat to the remarkable – Tony Bennett.

Let’s listen to the ever smooth Mr.B, with my favorite from 1963 “I Wanna Be Around.”
