November 28, 2021 5:05 am Boss Jock Radio Dateline: On November 28th, 1974, John Lennon made his last-ever concert appearance, joining Elton John on stage at Madison Square Garden. He was returning the favor for Elton's appearance on "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night" and making good on a bet he lost: Elton wagered that "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night" would hit #1 in America, and when it did, Lennon owed Elton an on stage appearance. Lennon was reportedly terrified of performing in front of the audience of 18-thousand fans, and tried to back out of the deal a few times. But the show went on with the two “Johns” performing a few songs, including, of course, "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night," "I Saw Her Standing There" and "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds." It was his first solo album following the Beatles breakup and included the hit singles “My Sweet Lord” and “What Is Life,” as well as a few tracks that had been turned down for release by the Beatles, like “Isn't It a Pity” and the title track. “All Things Must Pass” allowed George to formulate his “signature sound” using the slide guitar and spiritual themes that would become the foundation of his solo work for the rest of his life. The triple album became certified 6x Platinum by the RIAA, making it the best-selling album ever by a solo Beatle! November 27, 2021 5:01 am November 26, 2021 4:03 pm Boss Jock Radio Dateline: On November 26th, 1969, John Lennon was working alone on the final edit and timing of the Beatles song "You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)" at Abbey Road Studios. It was the last time John ever worked on the mix of a Beatles’ tune. It must have been a bittersweet time for John; the era of the Beatles was ending and he and Paul McCartney were not getting along well at all, and he was still grieving the loss of his friend Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones, who played alto sax on this song. Jones had drowned in his pool a few months earlier. John’s inspiration for the song’s title came from a telephone book, and he considered it a “comedy” record. McCartney said the tune was probably his “favorite Beatles’ track!” November 26, 2021 5:01 am Boss Jock Radio Thanksgiving Dateline: On November 25th, 1968, Cream bid farewell to the world with their last concert at London's Royal Albert Hall! The crowd of over 10,000 chanted "God save the Cream" as the group left the stage. The show was released three months later as “Goodbye Cream.” But many classic rock groups didn’t give up rock and roll forever….some came back, like the November 25th, 1997 reunion of the original Zombies, with Rod Argent on organ, Colin Blunstone on vocals, Paul Atkinson on guitar, Chris White on bass, and Hugh Grundy on drums! They decided to get together for the first time in 30 years for a show at London's Jazz Café to promote their new box set “Zombie Heaven.” Here’s a Zombies classic!
