When in N. Myrtle Beach SC., just say the words ‘beach music,’ and immediately you’ll hear mentions of acts such as The Swingin’ Medallions, The Tams, Chairmen Of The Board, Bill Deal & The Rhondells, etc. These acts, plus numerous others, along with a dance known as ‘the shag’ (a combination of jitterbug with swing), became popular, due to the music that was played in the juke joints and clubs in the southern sector, dating back to the late 1940’s. Along with long time regional acts such as The Embers, and Band Of Oz,  add a spice of Billy Stewart, Major Lance, Billy Ward & The Dominoes, with a huge base of soul, R & B, Motown, some modern dance hits, and you’ve got today’s mix of ‘beach music.’ Now, maybe the next time you hear one of these tunes on, you may say… hey man, now that’s BEACH MUSIC!
