Remembering DORIS COLEY (Kenner-Jackson) of THE SHIRELLES, who would have celebrated her 80th birthday on Aug 2. (she passed on  February 4,.2000).  In 1958, Doris sang lead vocal on the act’s first major release “I Met Him On A Sunday” on the Tiara label (later issued on Decca), resulting in a string of hits on Scepter Records, including my faves “Tonight’s The Night,” and “Foolish Little Girl.” A sincere pleasure to meet Doris in June 1978, along with original members Micki Harris, and Beverly Lee, (birthdate Aug 3.) Later, during the 1980s, I was honored to emcee a few shows with Shirley Alston-Reeves.
