With much ‘R-e-s-p-e-c-t,’ recalling The Queen Of Soul, ARETHA FRANKLIN, as this week we mark the 3rd anniversary of her passing (August 16, 2018). Sharing a few reflections on her career, she was gifted with talent, evident in her first recordings as a teenager, to her signing in 1960 with Columbia Records. Unfortunately, while Aretha made some dynamic sides in the pop and gospel vein, it wasn’t enough to break her into the mainstream… until 1966, when she exploded upon the direction that Atlantic Records took with her… she was R & B personified, with mass appeal to Top 40 radio. “Respect,” “I Never Loved A Man..” “Chain Of Fools,”.. all soul senders! Two standouts of mine are “Until You Come Back To Me” from 1974(..which I adore!) and “Jimmy Lee” (1986) during a period that introduced a whole new generation to the queen of soul. Rock steady forever.. Aretha.
