Paul Mc Cartney once cited THE BEACH BOYS album ‘PET SOUNDS,’ as a masterpiece, and became an inspiration for him in creating Sgt.Pepper. Hard to believe in May 2021, it’s now fifty-five years, since the release of what is acclaimed as Brian Wilson’s highest creative peak. The album not only spawned the mega hit “God Only Knows,” but “Sloop John B,” and Brian’s solo hit, the stellar ballad “Caroline No.”
In 2016, my son Eddie III and I, witnessed the 50th Anniversary ‘Pet Sounds’ tour, at the New York State Fair in Syracuse, NY. We were among a record 19,800 people who were mesmerized, by Brian Wilson and his band (including BB vets Al Jardine & Blondie Champlin), as they recreated a note for note performance of the album, in entirety and original tracking order. The highlight, was Brian’s vocal on “I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times,” just impeccable. It’s often been said many times, that Brian Wilson is a musical genius. After seeing that show, I will confirm that he was the ‘Mozart’ of our generation.
