In August of 1968, a chartbuster sweeping the nation, was “Girl Watcher” by THE O’KAYSIONS, who hailed from Kenly, North Carolina, featuring lead vocalist / keyboardist Donnie Weaver. The song was recorded earlier that year at Sound Studio in Greenville NC, initially released on the regional North State label, and by summer of 68′ became a huge national hit on ABC Records. Unfortunately, their follow up singles “Love Machine,” and “Twenty Four Hours From Tulsa,” didn’t quite match the success of their smash hit. With numerous personnel changes soon to follow, by 1970 Donnie Weaver had left the fold, embarking on a solo career.

A pleasure for me to meet and work with Donnie at the 2016 CBMA Awards at the Alabama Theater in N. Myrtle Beach SC, and following, an interview I conducted with Donnie, was published in the spring 2017 issue of Beach Scene Magazine.
