Rockin’ The Airwaves – WARM Radio – 1970
July 1, 2021

With another Fourth Of July holiday greeting us, we often think about songs with titles that imply, freedom and justice for all. With that being said, there are many tunes from the 1950s – 70s, that exemplified the meaning, but unfortunately, mainstream oldies radio has long forgotten. Here’s a few of those tunes: “God, Country, & My Baby” – Johnny Burnette, “Free”- Chicago, “Coming Home Soldier”-Bobby Vinton, “All American Boy “– Bill Parsons, “P.T. 109” – Jimmy Dean, “The A Team”- Sgt. Barry Sadler,“ Only In America” – Jay & The Americans, “Living in The U.S.A.”- Steve Miller Band, “America”- Simon & Garfunkel.  One of the most inspiring songs for this holiday, was a narrative reading (with an instrumental backing of “America The Beautiful,) delivered magnificently by Byron Mac Gregor, who was a renown news Journalist, at CKLW Radio. The song “Americans,” released in late 1973, reached #4 on Billboard during early 1974.  Listen to the inspiring message here:
