“Time Won’t Let Me” by The Outsiders

Zooming up Billboard’s Hot 100, in the top 10 during the month of April 1966, was the runaway hit from a Cleveland, Ohio act, THE OUTSIDERS entitled “Time Won’t Let Me.” Following the success of the single, Capitol Records, was quick to issue the release of an album. In the 1990s, I emceed a few shows with lead vocalist Sonny Geraci, and he shared an interesting fact about the cover art of that album.

Eddie Collins with Sonny Geraci

According to Sonny, “After we recorded it, drummer Ronnie Harkai had left the band (later replaced by Ricky Baker), Capitol had already had the cover done, and didn’t want to spend money re-doing another photo shoot, so if you look at the cover, you’ll see where they ‘airbrushed’ him (Ronnie) out on right corner, but … they left his shoe visible, in between the pants of (guitarist) Bill Bruno! ”  Nevertheless, The Outsiders would continue to produce a string of hit singles in 1966-68, and Sonny Geraci would go on to greater fame with Climax, and the smash “Precious & Few” in 1972.
