Heading back to this week in 1956, let’s just take a walk down lonely street, to a place called “Heartbreak Hotel,” with that hillbilly cat, we’re hearing a lot about, ELVIS PRESLEY. He gains his first big hit for RCA Records, which goes straight to #1 on Billboard’s Top 100 for 7 weeks, spends 17 weeks at the top on the country chart, and hit # 3 on the R & B chart. Also quite notable, the song’s co-writer Mae Axton, goes on to greater fame, having a tunesmith son, Hoyt Axton, who would pen such hits as “Never Been To Spain” for Three Dog Night, and Ringo Starr’s “No, No,No.” Enjoy a live clip, as Elvis tears it up with guitarist Scotty Moore, bassist Biill Black, and the legendary D.J.Fontana on drums.
