During the landslide of the British Invasion which took us by storm in 1964, four chaps from England
caught on with us thru their pop tunes, such as “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter,” “Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat,” and a string of catchy pop ditties. The band was known as HERMAN’S HERMITS (…fronted by singer Peter Noone), and kicking out the backbeat on drums, was Barry Whitwam. In 1986, I caught up with Barry (and guitarist Lek Lekenby r.i.p), during a performance in Wilkes-Barre PA. Now
decades later, Barry is still behind a drum kit performing and delighting fans, as he celebrates his 74th birthday this week on July 21.
