Spinning the time machine back to this week in 1973, a song that resonated with everyone, and stayed at #1 for four consecutive weeks, “Tie A Yellow Ribbon,” by TONY ORLANDO & DAWN. Prior to the act emerging on the scene, with early hits “Candida,” and “Knock Three Times,” Tony had managed to have a few major chart successes dating back to 1961, with “Halfway To Paradise, “and follow up single, “Bless You,” on Epic Records.  But it wouldn’t be until 1969, that we would hear from him again…. and this time he chose to keep his identity a secret.

The single that featured the voice of Tony Orlando, was entitled “Make Believe,” written by Bo Gentry & Joey Levine, and issued under an assumed group name as ‘Wind.’ Much to Tony’s surprise, the song started to gain strong airplay, and by the fall of 1969, it rose to # 28 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Tony Orlando is being recognized for his musical achievements by East Coast Music Hall Of Fame, and is to receive a lifetime achievement award, at festivities slated for June 2022.
